Yardwatch privacy policy

Last updated October 27, 2026.

Yardwatch is my personal, non-commercial project. I use it to keep an eye on the wildlife around my house with my own Google Nest cameras. It is not offered to anyone else, and the only Google account that signs in to it is mine. This page describes what it does with Google data, as required for its Google OAuth client.

What it accesses

With my permission, through the Google Home APIs (scope home.platform.v2), Yardwatch reads my home's device list, device states such as camera battery level and connectivity, and camera event history, including Google's event descriptions and the event video clips.

How I use that data

I do not use the data for advertising, I do not sell or transfer it to anyone, and I do not use it to train general-purpose AI models.

Where it is stored

Clips and their metadata are kept in my own private Google Cloud project, readable only by me. Credentials are kept in that project's Secret Manager.

People

My cameras also record people: my family, visitors, and people who work at the house. Those clips are kept in the same private archive and are never published. If you visited and want a clip of you deleted, ask me and I will delete it.

Google API Services User Data Policy

Yardwatch's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Revoking access and contact

I can revoke Yardwatch's access at any time from the Google Home app or Google Account permissions. Questions: contact me, Andrew Brook, via GitHub or LinkedIn.
